Provision of quality, modern education including cultural and environmental awareness, a sense of values, and physical education to the talented children from the rural areas is a key goal for VSSU. To this end, VSSU has invited Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti to run a school for the poor-brilliant children of South 24 Parganas district and provided free of cost 15 acres of land and the 'Anandamath' Building for its temporary use. Students in the Navodaya Vidyalayas are admitted in Class VI and provided education up to Class XII.

Significantly, the high school, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (J.N.V) selects talented rural children from all sections of society and from all areas, including the most backward. It aims to provide them with quality education comparable to the best residential school system. This is important because, so far, good quality education has been available only to well-to-do sections of society and the poor have been left out. Through J.N.V, children with special talent are provided opportunities to proceed at a faster pace by making good quality education available to them irrespective of their capacity to pay for it. It is a co-educational residential institution providing free board and lodging, as well as financial assistance for uniforms, text books, stationery and return trip rail and bus fares. J.N.V. is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The Chairman of the Samiti is the Honorable Minister of Human Resource Development and the Honorable Minister of State for Education is the Vice Chairman.
