With its inception in 1983, VSSU started an education program to promote child literacy in the community. Children used to visit the thatched roof cottage of VSSU where they were nursed by 2 crèche mothers. Today, VSSU is running 19 crèches in the district of South 24 Parganas, providing non-formal pre-primary education for nearly 700 underprivileged children. 44 crèche mothers help to build the children's' skills and confidence and to identify their talents in different areas. At present West Bengal Social Welfare Board funds one crèche.
